Job Title: Student Research Assistant – Knowledge Makers

Location: Thompson Rivers University

Position Type: Contract Part-time (5-25 hours bi-weekly depending on your availability)

Wage: $28/hour

About Knowledge Makers: Knowledge Makers is dedicated to empowering Indigenous students in their research journeys. We focus on fostering a supportive community that values Indigenous knowledge, research, and leadership. Our program is led by Dr. Rod McCormick, who is committed to helping students achieve academic excellence while honoring their cultural heritage.

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Student Research Assistant to join our team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a student with a background in research or experience writing research papers, who is passionate about community engagement, and interested in working with Indigenous students. Preference will be given to applicants who are First Nations, Metis, or Inuit.

If you don’t have extensive experience in research but have other community based qualifications in leadership, organizing events, social media experience or more we are also happy to train research skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in multiple ongoing research projects within the Knowledge Makers program.
  • Aid in the implementation of workshops and seminars.
  • Work closely with Indigenous students in a kind and approachable manner, providing guidance and support.
  • Help Indigenous students find resources and references for their research papers.
  • Assist Dr. Rod McCormick in conducting workshops and other educational or outreach activities.

Qualifications:

  • Background in research or experience writing research papers.
  • Interest in and commitment to community work, volunteer work, or involvement in social clubs.
  • Experience or a strong interest in working with Indigenous communities.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are First Nations, Metis, or Inuit.
