Last Friday, March 7th, in honor of Women’s Day Knowledge Makers took an international stage during the official launch of Volume 8: Indigenous Women, Indigenous Peoples’ Food and Knowledge Systems, and Climate Action.
This special edition was a unique collaboration between Knowledge Makers and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Dr. Rod McCormick, Dr. Shannon Wagner (OVPR at TRU) and Dr. Airini (Co-founder of Knowledge Makers) in addition to Volume 8 authors Melanie Kirby and Rosa Marina Florez Cruz attended in person.
Attending virtually were Dr. Sereana Naepi, Jeneen Herns-Jensen, Chuying Jiao, Alexis Gottfriedson, Joanne Brown and Mariam Tambieva.
The All My Relations Research Centre and FAO have worked together closely since 2020 to bring this idea, program and publication into reality. The official publication launch of this Knowledge Makers Journal Volume 8 special edition at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy marks an important accomplishment for the Indigenous women of the cohort, as well as TRU and FAO.

This incredible publication speaks to exciting ways that we can build our futures through the incorporation and recognition of Indigenous knowledge systems. To Quote Dr. Shannon Wagner “Participation provides voice where otherwise voice may not have been heard, and it provides critical, Indigenous knowledge and methodology from the vital perspective of lived experience…. As we face ongoing global crises connected to climate and related impacts on food accessibility and security, we must listen to all voices.”
